Every machine is out, the ride zones are crowded, and the operators have no time to walk a nervous first-timer through the controls. Two days from now the same docks will have open hour blocks, a calmer bay, and staff who can spend ten minutes with your teenager before the throttle goes down. For families and groups, that swing is the whole story of early September.

Who can drive, who can ride: the Florida rules

Labor Day Sunday and Monday: what is left

Call at 7am, be ready to drive to the dock, and take whatever morning block opens - the afternoon is heat, chop, and the storm window all at once.

Most operators include fuel in the hourly rate; confirm, because the ones that do not bill it on return.
The week of September 8: the best family jet ski week of the year
From Tuesday the docks empty and the water does not change. Bay and Gulf temperatures are still in the mid-80s, the mornings are glass, the afternoon storm pattern that ran daily in August is loosening, and the ride zones that were shoulder-to-shoulder on Sunday have room to actually open the throttle. Crab Island, which tours stop at, goes from a wall of boats to a sandbar with room to pull the machines up on the shallow edge.
Availability opens up across the board. Hour blocks are bookable the day before instead of three or four days out, and the 10am guided tour - the best slot for first-timers - usually has seats for a group of four to six machines.
